We’re back in action this weekend with both the 10U and 14U Top Tier Las Vegas groups playing the the Perfect Game Cinco de Mayo event.
The Top Tier Las Vegas 10U team continued to trend in the right direction their last time out, sweeping their pool play schedule, with wins against ZT Prospects and MTBA Dawgs, before beating Sin City Thunder Black on Sunday in bracket play and eventually bowing out after a tough 8-6 loss to LVR.
The 10s open their weekend with a pool play double-dip against Vegas Elite Black and Golden Spikes Steel on Saturday at Arroyo Grande at Noon and 3:55 p.m.
The Top Tier Las Vegas 14U team fell to Golden Spikes in bracket play their last time out, dropping a 3-1 game, where some costly mistakes on the basepaths proved to be their demise.
This weekend they’ll kick things off with an 8:00 a.m. matchup with Wow Factor Nevada LaComb before meeting RD2 Red at 2:00 p.m. in the second of two games at Desert Diamonds on Saturday.
This weekend marks the second-to-last tournament of the Spring season for both groups, with both trending in the right direction as we inch closer to the end of the season.

- Here’s a good clip I came across on X last night, a must watch for all of our fielders, but especially our first-baseman:
- Here’s a good conversation about 1) the importance of locating breaking balls in the strike zone, especially as a means to get into a leverage or advantage count, and 2) why flashing those pitches in the zone early leads to swing-and-miss results in put-away counts.
- Pitchers: trust your stuff, especially when times are tough. There’s a lot of preparation that goes into your turn in the rotation, but when it’s your day or your inning, just go have fun and trust your stuff.
- A reminder: slides should be a tool in your bag. Practice them. Be creative. Every tool in your bag is a reason for you to have more opportunities to get on the field and show them off.
